I need to make up my bed and keep my closet organized. I need to stay committed to exercise and fitness. I need to follow through on my priorities at work. I need to spend time reading. I need to eat fruits and vegetables. I need to maintain my cars. I need to communicate with my kids. I need to pay attention to my wife.to say the least, the list of things I need to do is long. And yet, everyday, things go undone.
It is not for a lack of knowledge. Truthfully, I know how to do all the things I need to do.
What I really need is to be reminded. I suspect the same is true for you.
The fact is, “People need to be reminded more than they need to be taught.”
On your path today there will be dozens of people who need to be reminded. Why not pick one or two and encourage them to be what they know they should be?
Here are a few things to keep in mind as you seek to remind others.
1 – Remind others in the same way you would want to be reminded.
2 – Remind others what they could do right rather than what they did wrong.
3 – Remind others of the things they have verbalized as their goals, not what you think their goals should be.
4 – Remind others that progress is realistic, as opposed to perfection which is fantasy.
You will occasionally meet someone who needs to be taught. If so, by all means, invest in their development. But more times than not, people simply need to be reminded.
There are definitely things you need to do. Perhaps at the top of your list should be to become an expert in providing reminders?
