Last night the Lombardi Trophy was awarded to the Green Bay Packers after their victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 .  The Super Bowl hardware is named after the Packers legendary coach from 1959-1967, Vince Lombardi.  This morning the trophy is on its way back home to Wisconsin.

In honor of the old coach I am reposting this blog I wrote last Fall.  Its original title was “A Commitment to Excellence.”

repost from 10.1.10

“I would say that the quality of each man’s life is the full measure of that man’s commitment to excellence and victory – whether it be in football, whether it be business, whether it be politics or government or what you have.”

Unfortunately, not many people say things like that these days.  But back in the day, they did.  Those words were once spoken by legendary coach, Vince Lombardi.

Lombardi was obsessed with winning.  And he understood that victory could only be sustained if excellence was present.

Do you think about winning in your area of leadership, or are you just going through the motions?

If you want to maximize the quality of your life as well as take your influence to the next level, I encourage you to become obsessed with excellence.

Ultimately, you will be measured and remembered.  A commitment to excellence might just propel you to greatness as it did for the old coach.
