I’m shocked at how many people I meet who appear to be miserable in their work. No one seems to be having fun anymore. Are you?
In his book Great by Choice, author Jim Collins quotes Biomet CEO Dane Miller. According to Collins, Miller was obsessed with two things. His family and Biomet.
Miller’s words, “There’s nothing else I want to do with my life. I enjoy virtually every day and I couldn’t be having any more fun or any more excitement about what I do.”
Collin’s research shows that Miller was the most underpaid CEO of all the great companies studied. But money is not everything.
Miller was more motivated by making a difference than he was with making a living. His own words,“What incremental value does an extra 100,000 shares have? At some point, you’re just satisfying an uncontrollable greed complex.”
That sounds like a man who gets it to me. What about you? Are you having fun yet, or are you just chasing a paycheck?
Life is too short to go through the motions. Find something you enjoy doing and get busy. And if you are currently disengaged, it doesn’t necessarily mean you need to change careers.
The reality is, you are probably good at what you do. You might just need to refocus your energy and remember why you chose your job in the first place.
No one knows you better than you. Pay attention to what your life is saying and then pursue something that brings you fulfillment.
I bet you’ll be having fun before you know it!

What is your favorite thing about your work?
Dream job would be combining two things, writing and web development (or designing). But since I have to earn money to support my family I work a job. Thanks for the reminder that my job isn’t who I am. I am here for God’s purpose and no matter where I am I want to make that difference…
Thanks Randy,
Ja
Keep pursuing your dream Jason!
I am having a blast!!!
