Yesterday afternoon one of my friends and I had a chance to attend a guest lecture series at a local university.  The speaker was fiction author, David Baldacci.

Afterwards we had a chance to meet Baldacci and have a picture taken with him.

During his talk he shared the secret to how he became a big time author.

He said that several years ago, before anyone had a clue who he was, he would write every night from 10:00 PM until 3:00 AM.  He did this seven nights a week for seven years.

That’s over 12,000 hours of discipline and grinding.

What is even more remarkable is that Baldacci did this while working during the day as a lawyer and spending the evenings with his wife and kids.

Malcolm Gladwell would be proud.  If you have read his book, Outliers, you are familiar with the 10,000 hour rule.  The rule is based on a study that shows tremendous time is required to achieve greatness in any area of life.

Where are you investing a “tremendous” amount of time?  I hope it is not in front of the TV.

If you ever want to reach your potential it is going to cost you your very life.  If you aren’t willing to pay that kind of price, you will never really live.

You were born for greatness.  There is a dream in your heart.  And today is the best day you will ever have to roll up your sleeves and get busy chasing it.
