Do You Go Beyond the Minimum?

Welcome to December. While I hope your Thanksgiving was full of gratefulness and some down time, the holiday express has left the station. Next stop … Christmas!
There is no way around it. Christmas is about Jesus. After all, it is His birthday. One of my favorite stories Jesus told is referred to as the parable of the Good Samaritan. It is found in the Bible in the Gospel of Luke.
ChristmasPreceding the story, Jesus is having a conversation with a leader. Jesus tells the man that the most important thing one can do is, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
The man responds to the challenge with a question. “Who is my neighbor?”
If you think about it, “Who is my neighbor?” is the man’s way of saying, “What is the minimum I have to do to earn approval?”
I know many leaders who think like that. In fact, I must admit, sometimes I am guilty of such thinking myself.
“What is the minimum thinking,” will never get you beyond mediocrity.
As you live and lead in this holiday season, I challenge you to love with all of your heart, soul, and strength.

You may have many more Christmases in the future, but you will not have this one again. You only have one shot to get it right.
I say,“Go Beyond the Minimum.”
Leadership Begins at Home,
What is one thing you need to do today to go beyond the minimum?
