Don't You Wish You Had a Leadership Etch-a-Sketch?

When I was a kid one of my favorite toys with an Etch-a-Sketch. I received one for Christmas one year and remember having hours of fun trying to learn to draw with perhaps the world’s first tablet.

I wasn’t much of an artist, but did finally master writing my name. My favorite part of the Etch-a-Sketch was when I messed up it was so easy to shake up my mistakes and start over.

Don’t you wish you had a leadership Etch-a-Sketch, especially this time of year? Wouldn’t it be great if you could just shake up your iPad and cancel out all of your missed opportunities during 2015? Can you imagine a tool that would erase all of your leadership mistakes? I know I do.

The reality is, there are no do overs when he comes to your leadership. That’s why it’s so important for you to lead well and maximize your opportunities the first time they surface. However, while there are no do overs, there are opportunities to do things different.

What would happen if you decided to shake up your leadership a bit and make some changes moving forward? I’m guessing those changes might lead to greater effectiveness and more opportunities for influence.

Spend some time before the end of the year and go Etch-a-Sketch on your life and leadership. Choose an area or two where you would like to start over and then take a step. Doing so will help you become a better leader.

Leadership Begins at Home,

What is one area in your leadership where you need to make a change?

To make it to next level I must handle change with times better and understand every idea might be the best one to surface in years.
