When I was in college I had the opportunity to work for UPS. It was one of the hardest jobs I ever had.
My shift was from 4:00-8:30 AM during my Christmas break. My job was in the back of a freezing cold semi, in the middle of December, unloading packages. A coworker and I placed the packages onto a conveyor belt as fast as we could. Every time we finished a truck we were given a 5 minute break while they backed in another one.
The environment was tough, but the culture was incredible. Little did I know I would one day have the opportunity to co-author a book with the former president of UPS International. But it happened. A couple of years ago Ron Wallace, Jim Fallon, David Schiff, and I set out to create a book on the values that drove UPS to become one of the best companies in the world. Last week we released Leadership Lessons from a UPS Driver. Following is a message from Ron. I hope you will pick up a copy and enjoy!
I am very excited to tell you about our new book. It is a leadership book titled, Leadership Lessons from a UPS Driver. The book is about UPS’ unique corporate culture and reveals for the first time what makes UPS tick. Most importantly, it’s about teaching leaders to think and to act so they can help their people grow, take charge and do what is right.
I intended to make this leadership book different than others by using stories from the frontline. Going beyond theories, concepts and ideologies, and tackling the real stuff leaders are challenged with today.
Former Ambassador Frank McKenna in his endorsement said of the book and its author: “Ron Wallace has been there, done that, and now we have the book to prove it. Leadership Lessons from a UPS Driver, has more practical wisdom than a Harvard MBA or an entire library of business texts. Wallace has produced a paint-by-the-numbers set for the aspiring executive. As a bonus, it is a practical bible on how to live a more fulfilling life.”
The book has just been released and is available on Amazon.
If you purchase the book, and I hope you do, would you mind putting in a positive review on Amazon about the book and share it on your social media channels?
Feel free to include an image of the book for posting on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. You can download it here.
Thank you so much for your help,
Former president of UPS International
