Moving into 2013, there is one important thing you need to ask yourself. What am I going to measure?
A couple of days ago, I read that there are two important considerations when it comes to measurement. One – Do I measure something because it matters? Two – Does something matter because I measure it?
If you ask me, it is better to start with what matters, and measure that. Measurement, for measurement sake, is a waste of time. If you are like most of the leaders I know, you have better things to do with your time than to check off boxes and build spread sheets.
Spend some time today defining want matters and then develop a system to track your progress.
I love the old saying, “What gets measured, gets done.” There is no doubt, measurement is a powerful tool. But it goes without saying, what gets done is irrelevant if it doesn’t MATTER.
Tomorrow I will share something with you that matters to me,
something I will be measuring during 2013.
In the meantime, measure what matters!

Randy
