Over the weekend I heard a friend of mine speaking on the idea of unity. His words reminded me once again of the importance of teamwork.
About halfway through his talk he made the statement, “It’s hard to rock the boat when you are rowing the boat.”
What a great metaphor for teamwork.
If you and your team are all rowing in the same direction, there is practically nothing that can keep you from accomplishing your mission. However, if you have “boat rockers” on board, you are squandering your opportunity for influence.
For those who are rowing, perhaps a word of encouragement is in order? For the boat rockers, maybe it is time to make them walk the plank?
Your team is your most valuable resource. It is your job to encourage the rowers and eliminate the rockers.
Why do you think it is so hard to let go of boat rockers?
