What Really Matters

Today is the birthday of one of my favorite basketball coaches, Gregg Popovich. His run at the helm of the San Antonio Spurs has been remarkable.

“Pop,” as he is affectionately called by his players, has been named NBA Coach of the year twice and has guided his team to 4 NBA titles in the last 15 years. He is a true leader.

Pop’s secret can be found in a quote he shared a while back. “What people say doesn’t matter. The game is what matters.” … Talk about focus.

As you look at your own leadership, are you more concerned with what you do, or with what people say about what you do? If you get caught up in the opinion of others don’t expect to be competing for titles.

Stick to what really matters!

Leadership Begins at Home,

Randy

Why do you think leaders become sidetracked with what others say?

Wow – this is a bit hard to understand. Our people (players, employees, family) are the most important piece of our business & life; however, we still have to have direction. I think THAT is what Pop wants us to see. Love your people but keep your direction.
